Act 1020 of 2015 was signed into law by Governor Asa Hutchinson on April 6, 2015. The law abolishes the Arkansas State Board of Massage Therapy and transfers it to the State Board of Health and the Arkansas Department of Health. The Act also creates the Massage Therapy Technical Advisory Committee.

1. Massage Therapy Technical Advisory Committee (Section 8). The State Board of Health will appoint a seven (7) member Massage Therapy Technical Advisory Committee (MTTAC). Each memberís term shall be three (3) years. Six (6) of the members must be licensees. Only one (1) of these may be the owner of a massage therapy school. The remaining member represents the public and cannot be engaged in or retired from the practice of massage therapy.

2. Postsecondary Schools. Two provisions of Act 1020, Sections 6 and 18, regard establishing the curriculum for postsecondary schools and go into effect immediately. According to these Sections, the State Board of Massage Therapy must establish a standard educational curriculum for massage therapy schools and the curriculum must distinguish between secondary and postsecondary educational requirements. The State Board of Massage Therapy will do this by Rulemaking. The Board of Health will approve this curriculum.

3. Renewals. All massage therapists, school owners, clinics, spas, etc., must continue to renew licenses and submit fees according to current law. Until further notice, please continue to submit your payments and renewal information to:
